Job summary

Via Separations, a Boston-area startup, seeks a Lead Mechanical Technician to join our Internal Systems group on-site in Watertown, MA. You will lead assembly of test skids, read engineering drawings, order materials, and ensure safety and quality in a hands-on role.

Occasional field support may be required. You will mentor teammates, troubleshoot mechanical, piping, and electrical issues, and work around hazardous liquids and gases with proper PPE and procedures.

Qualifications

• 10+ years hands-on experience with mechanical and piping systems.
• Able to read engineering drawings, P&IDs and specifications.
• Experience with hand tools and shop equipment (cut-off saws, pipe threading machines).
• Comfortable around hazardous liquids and gases.
• Experience ordering or specifying fabrication/maintenance materials.
• Strong troubleshooting across mechanical, piping and basic electrical/controls.
• Knowledge of RO systems and high-pressure components.
• Ability to lead tasks and guide others on builds/maintenance.
• Able to work independently with minimal oversight.
• U.S. work authorization required.

Responsibilities

• Build & Assembly: Assemble internal test equipment and skids, read drawings and specifications, order materials, fabricate piping and structural components, lead sequencing and safety standards.
• Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Inspect and repair test skids and internal systems, troubleshoot mechanical, piping, instrumentation and electrical issues.
• Safety & Leadership: Work safely around hazardous liquids and gases, mentor others, enforce shop safety and quality standards.
