Job summary

Via Separations, a Boston-area startup, seeks a Mechanical Build & Maintenance Lead to head the assembly and maintenance of internal test equipment in our Watertown, MA lab. You will read engineering drawings, source materials, and supervise shop tasks while safely handling hazardous liquids and gases.

You’ll lead a small team, coordinate with engineers and electricians, and ensure quality, safety, and timely delivery of test skids and lab systems for our pilot deployments, with occasional

Qualifications

• 10+ years hands-on experience assembling, fabricating, and maintaining mechanical and piping systems.
• Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.
• Experience with hand tools and shop equipment, including cut-off saws and pipe threading machines.
• Comfort around hazardous liquids and gases.
• Experience ordering or specifying fabrication materials.
• Strong troubleshooting across mechanical, piping, and basic electrical/controls systems.
• Knowledge of RO and high-pressure systems and safe handling.
• Ability to lead tasks and provide direction to others.
• Work independently with sound judgment.
• Must pass PPE and safety requirements and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Lead build sequencing and task assignment for projects.
• Read and interpret drawings, P&IDs, and specs to plan builds.
• Order and track materials with engineering/procurement.
• Fabricate and install piping and structural components.
• Coordinate with electricians, plumbers, and HVAC contractors.
• Maintain and troubleshoot test skids and internal systems.
• Ensure safe operation around hazardous liquids and gases.
• Mentor colleagues and enforce shop safety and quality standards.
