Job summary

Via Separations, a Boston-area startup, seeks a Mechanical Systems Specialist for the Internal Systems group. You will lead assembly, fabrication, and build-out of test skids and pilot support systems, reading drawings and sourcing materials, while safely operating hand and shop tools around hazardous liquids and gases in Watertown, MA.

The role demands 10+ years of hands-on experience with mechanical/piping systems, strong troubleshooting, and leadership.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on experience assembling, fabricating, and maintaining mechanical and piping systems.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.
• Experience ordering or specifying material for fabrication or maintenance work.
• Strong troubleshooting across mechanical, piping, and basic electrical/controls.
• Knowledge of reverse osmosis (RO) and high‑pressure system components.
• Ability to lead tasks and provide direction to others on a build or maintenance job.
• U.S. work authorization is required for this role.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds, background and drug screening required.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and fabricate internal test equipment and skids, including pumps, piping, valves, instrumentation, controls, and electrical components.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and specifications to plan and execute builds.
• Order and track material required for builds, coordinating with engineering and procurement.
• Lead build sequencing and task assignment for projects, ensuring safety and quality standards.
• Coordinate with electricians, plumbers, and HVAC contractors for lab equipment installation and maintenance.
