Job summary

Via Separations, a Boston-area startup, seeks a Lead Mechanical Technician to join our Internal Systems group in Watertown, MA. You will lead the assembly, fabrication, and build-out of internal test equipment, including test skids and pilot support systems, and you will troubleshoot and maintain equipment in our lab.

You will read engineering drawings, source materials, coordinate with vendors and field teams, and mentor junior staff while upholding safety around hazardous liquids and gases.

Qualifications

• 10+ years hands-on experience assembling, fabricating, and maintaining mechanical and piping systems.
• Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, P&IDs, and specs.
• Experience using hand tools and shop equipment (cut-off saws, pipe threading).
• Experience ordering or specifying materials for fabrication or maintenance work.
• Strong troubleshooting across mechanical, piping and basic electrical/controls.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and undergo background/drug screening.
• U.S. work authorization is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead assembly, fabrication, and build-out of internal test equipment and skids.
• Read drawings and plan builds, order materials, and track deliveries.
• Lead task sequencing and ensure safety and quality standards.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, piping, instrumentation, and electrical issues.
• Mentor colleagues and enforce shop safety and quality standards.
