Job summary

Via Separations in Watertown, MA is seeking a Mechanical Build & Maintenance Lead to join our Internal Systems group. This hands-on leadership role oversees the assembly, fabrication, and upkeep of internal test skids and pilot support systems, reading engineering drawings and coordinating with engineers and procurement.

You will supervise builds, ensure safety around hazardous liquids and gases, mentor colleagues, and drive reliability across mechanical, piping, and electrical aspects,

Qualifications

• 10+ years hands-on experience assembling, fabricating, and maintaining mechanical and piping systems.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.
• Experience with hand tools and shop equipment (cut-off saws, pipe threading).
• Safety-focused working around hazardous liquids and gases.
• Experience ordering or specifying fabrication or maintenance materials.
• Strong troubleshooting across mechanical, piping, and basic electrical/controls.
• RO and high-pressure system knowledge and safe handling.
• Ability to lead tasks and provide direction on builds or maintenance.
• Independent worker with sound judgment; able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and fabricate internal test equipment and skids with pumps, piping, valves, instrumentation, and controls.
• Read and interpret drawings, P&IDs and specs to plan and execute builds.
• Order and track materials, coordinating with engineering and procurement.
• Use hand tools and shop equipment to fabricate and install piping and structural components.
• Lead build sequencing and assign tasks, ensuring quality and safety.
• Support shipping and receiving, including crates and large-item packaging.
• Coordinate with electricians, plumbers, and HVAC contractors for lab systems.
