Job summary

Leidos' Undersea Systems Division in San Diego, CA is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Supervisor to advance sensor payloads for autonomous underwater vehicles and manage the manufacturing of waterproof housings for sensors and electronics. You will lead an interdisciplinary team on fast-paced R&D projects supporting NIWC PAC and DoD stakeholders.

The role requires designing for marine environments, maintaining a SECRET clearance, and supervising 1+ staff with HR duties.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Basic proficiency with Computer Aided Drafting(CAD) skills, SolidWorks or SolidEdge preferred
• Proficiency with machine shop tools, mill, lathe, CNC, 3D Printer
• Experience with Windows and Unix Operating Systems
• Experience designing for the marine environment
• Be able to effectively interact with, articulate opinions, and receive feedback from other technical team members
• Experience with Oceanographic instruments
• Be well-organized, detail-oriented, self-starter with good interpersonal skills
• Be able to maintain a SECRET security clearance.
• Requires work in various temperatures and inclement weather.
• Required to work in /or in loud production environments.
• Supervise 1+ personnel in their daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly activities and provide mentoring, guidance, and career discussions for direct report employee(s).
• Be responsible for hiring, firing, raises, promotions, and all HR associated actions for direct report employee(s).

Responsibilities

• Develop sensor payloads for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle
• Develop tools to aid with sensor production and testing
• Design and manage the manufacturing of waterproof housings for sensors and electronics
• Conduct at-sea operational and survivability testing
• Create and manage CAD models of components and assemblies
• Configuration management of mechanical systems and assembly procedures
• Works independently on larger, moderately complex projects/assignments.
• Develops solutions to technical problems that require depth of technical knowledge but are typically limited in complexity.
