Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support UUV design, build, and test within the Maritime Systems Division. You will mentor junior engineers and create 3D models with Solidworks, generating detailed drawings to ASME standards and managing data in PDM Pro.

The role requires strong analysis skills (thermal, structural, hydrodynamic) using hand methods and tools like ANSYS/COMSOL, and collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver prototype systems for sea trials.

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical engineering required (BS with 4–8 years or MS with 2–6 years).
• Ability to obtain Secret clearance or higher.
• Experience with Solidworks and Solidworks PDM Pro.
• Experience with ASME Y14.5 standards and GD&T.
• Experience analyzing mechanical systems (thermal, structural, hydrodynamic).
• Background designing, building, and testing prototype hardware.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze mechanical systems for UUVs (propulsion, structure, payloads).
• Mentor junior mechanical engineers and provide leadership.
• Create 3D models, detailed drawings, and maintain PDM Pro models.
• Perform structural, vibration, shock, thermal, and hydrodynamic analyses.
• Present designs in internal and customer reviews.
• Collaborate across disciplines to meet requirements.
• Work with manufacturing and test teams to build prototypes and test.
