Job summary

Douglas County is seeking a Lead Mechanic in Castle Rock, CO. This Master Technician level role performs preventive maintenance and repairs on county vehicles and equipment, and supports the shop supervisor with scheduling and leadership of peers.

The position features a Monday–Thursday schedule (7:00 am–5:30 pm) with potential overtime, on-call during snow events, and a clothing and tool allowance. A Colorado driver’s license and relevant certifications are required.

Qualifications

• Six years of automotive/diesel mechanical experience or equivalent.
• High school diploma or GED; automotive/heavy equipment training preferred.
• Colorado Driver’s License required; CDL permit within 90 days and license without 'E' restriction within 2 years; Class A preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on county vehicles and equipment.
• Lead and assist shop supervisor with scheduling and work orders.
• Diagnose, repair, and service engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, and drivetrains.
• Inspect equipment, conduct safety inspections, and help with field service calls as needed.
• Be on-call during snow events to support Public Works snow removal operations.
