Job summary

Park County Government seeks a skilled mechanic to maintain and repair a wide range of county vehicles and equipment in Public Works shops and in the field. The role covers diagnostic work, preventative maintenance, and occasional fabrication tasks.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, with vocational mechanics training or 2+ years of experience. A Class B CDL is preferred; background checks apply; some overtime expected.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Vocational mechanics training preferred or two years of mechanic experience.
  • Two years' mechanic experience in automotive field desired.
  • CDL Class B required to achieve 50% or greater pay.
  • Must pass background check.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic maintenance: oil/filter changes, grease and lube, tire rotation and balance, air, fuel and hydraulic filter changes.
  • Sweep and clean shop, store tools and equipment after use.
  • Paint and place decals on vehicles/equipment.
  • Inspect and repair vehicles to meet Public Works and DOT standards.
  • Document job time, hours and miles, parts used, and repairs; relay to proper personnel.
  • Provide field service in emergencies.
  • Repair/diagnose Park County equipment including heavy and light trucks, tractors, snowplows, sanders, spreaders, specialty equipment, and small engines.
  • Replace components with guidance for complex equipment (hydraulic pumps/motors, conveyors, electrical/generation units).
  • Operate vehicles to troubleshoot and test repairs.
  • Welding and fabrication tasks (cutting, fabricating, soldering).
  • Work safely and with quality; participate in Emergency Support Functions.
