Job summary

Boston Dynamics in Waltham, MA seeks a Sr. Staff Manufacturing Engineer to scale Atlas production from prototype to low-volume manufacturing.

You will lead cradle-to-grave process implementation, develop tooling, fixtures, and automation, and partner with Hardware, Prototype Operations, Systems, and Behavior teams for reliable builds. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related engineering field.
• 8–15 years in process engineering or advanced manufacturing.
• Expert CAD tools for tool/fixture design (SolidWorks, CATIA).
• DFM/DFA collaboration with design teams.
• Hands-on tooling, jigs, fixtures development.
• Automation equipment development and validation.
• Prototyping to low-volume production experience.
• Lean Six Sigma and root-cause analysis experience.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and implement rate production processes for Atlas from prototype to low-volume production.
• Design production system tools including material flow diagrams, value stream maps, floor layouts, and automation integrations.
• Collaborate with Hardware Engineering to provide DFM/DFA input for manufacturability.
• Design, fabricate, and validate fixtures, tools, and jigs for precision assembly.
• Define assembly sequences, SOPs, visual aids, and training materials for technicians.
• Support prototype builds, troubleshoot issues, and drive corrective actions.
• Implement process controls to ensure quality and dimensional accuracy.
• Develop inspection and test processes including FAIs and in-process checks.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain to align external fabrication with internal standards.
• Lead Lean/Six Sigma driven continuous improvement to reduce cycle times and improve yield.
• Drive tooling and equipment validation and capability studies.
