Job summary

Boston Dynamics in the United States is seeking a Sr. Staff Manufacturing Engineer to scale Atlas production from prototype to low-volume manufacturing.

You will lead rate production processes, design fixtures, and work with hardware, systems, and software teams to ensure repeatable, high-quality assembly. The role emphasizes DFM/DFA collaboration, Lean Six Sigma-driven improvements, and hands-on tooling, fixture validation, and process control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering; Master’s degree a plus.
• 8–15 years in process engineering, process development, or advanced manufacturing (robotics/aerospace preferred).
• Expert CAD skills in SolidWorks or CATIA for tool/fixture design.
• DFM/DFA collaboration with design teams to drive manufacturable products.
• Hands-on tooling and automation equipment experience for assembly and testing.
• Lean Six Sigma and root-cause analysis experience.
• Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and implement rate production processes for Atlas from prototype to low-volume production.
• Design and implement production system tools, layouts, and automation integrations.
• Provide DFM/DFA input throughout product development to ensure manufacturability.
• Create fixtures, tools, and jigs for precision assembly and testing.
• Define SOPs, work instructions, and training materials for assembly technicians.
• Troubleshoot prototype builds, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions.
• Implement process controls to ensure quality and dimensional accuracy.
• Lead Lean/Six Sigma projects to improve yield and cycle times.
• Coordinate with Supply Chain for external fabrication and suppliers.
• Validate tooling, fixtures, and equipment; run capability studies as needed.
