Job summary

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction seeks a Maintenance Repair Worker 3 at Southeastern Correctional Institution in Lancaster, Ohio. This role leads semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work across electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and grounds, and may supervise inmate crews.

You will inspect buildings and equipment, perform preventive maintenance, operate machine tools, and respond to emergencies.

Qualifications

• Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
• 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in maintenance repair (e.g., basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment).
• Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by Ohio laws.
• Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.

Responsibilities

• Lead worker over inmates or staff in semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repair work (electrical, carpentry, grounds keeping, plumbing).
• Repair and maintain equipment (light fixtures, outlets, motors, appliances, wiring, heating/cooling components).
• Perform carpentry repairs (doors, locks, cabinets, floors, walls, windows).
• Repair plumbing equipment (pipes, fixtures, pumps, valves).
• Perform interior custodial duties (cleaning, waxing).
• Perform exterior grounds keeping duties.
• Inspect buildings and equipment for needed repairs.
• Perform preventive maintenance of assigned area.
• Operate machine tools and welding equipment.
• Safely secure tools and maintain inventories.
• Assist in related crafts as needed.
• Control/restrict inmate movement as required.
• Conduct searches when security is at risk.
• Respond to emergencies and attend trainings.
• Participate on institution committees.
