Job summary

TEKsystems is hiring a hands-on Lead Low-Voltage Technician for direct-placement opportunities in the Charleston, SC market, with Charlotte, NC as well. The role emphasizes on-site leadership, coordinating technicians, and delivering completed projects on time.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in commercial structured cabling or electronic security, can read drawings, mentor crew members, and communicate professionally with customers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial structured-cabling, low-voltage or electronic-security installation experience preferred.
• Must read and interpret construction drawings, floor plans, cable schedules and project specs.
• Hands-on installation work with leadership responsibilities on active jobsites.

Responsibilities

• Lead small field crews while remaining actively involved in installation, termination, testing, troubleshooting, and project completion.
• Review project drawings and installation requirements before directing field activities.
• Install and troubleshoot Cat6/6A copper cabling, fiber, racks, patch panels, and pathways.
• Support access-control, surveillance, and other electronic security systems as required by projects.
• Direct daily field activities and ensure crew understands assignments and safety standards.
• Monitor progress, material needs, and schedule risks; communicate concerns to leadership.
• Perform quality spot checks and corrective work to ensure inspection-ready installations.
• Conduct copper certification and fiber testing; document deficiencies and oversee fixes.
• Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and internal teams.
• Coach less-experienced technicians and promote safe, productive practices.
• Build a dependable jobsite culture focused on safety, accountability, teamwork and quality.
• Maintain field documentation, testing records, and progress updates.
• Identify future leaders to grow the field team as operations expand.
• Travel locally and regionally based on project demands.
