Responsibilities

• Receives, evaluates and underwrites more complex life insurance applications up to their maximum handling limit as approved by the Chief Underwriter.
• Maintains knowledge of underwriting manuals, materials and procedures affecting mortality and morbidity.
• Orders and evaluates additional evidence of insurability including medical exams, reports and interviews.
• Applies risk-based decision-making in accelerated underwriting processes where applicable.
• Consults with other underwriters and mentors staff on complex cases.
• Assesses financial data to establish insurable interest and supports training of team members.
• Coordinates reinsurance terms within contract guidelines and product practices.
• Learns partner needs during field visits to improve service and outcomes.
• Determines eligibility for temporary insurance and approves related reimbursements as needed.
• Interprets electrocardiograms and seeks Medical Director input when required.
