Job summary

Torc is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Perception team to lead ML and software engineers across the complete perception lifecycle. You will guide model development, evaluation, integration, and robotic testing for autonomous trucking perception systems.

You will stay close to technical decisions, drive roadmap alignment with department missions, and ensure production-grade ML systems meet reliability and safety requirements.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional experience in related field or a master's with 4+ years.
• 2+ years of experience leading and managing engineers.
• Strong foundation in ML and computer vision, including 3D geometry and perception failure modes.
• Experience deploying production ML systems for autonomous driving or robotics.
• Experience with multitask learning, object detection, road/lane detection, or 3D occupancy estimation.
• Experience with lidar sensing and synchronization.
• Experience across ML lifecycle: data, training, evaluation, integration, production validation.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of ML and software engineers, including hiring and performance management.
• Set technical direction and priorities for active-sensor perception aligned with milestones.
• Own development and delivery of multitask models using lidar and radar data.
• Guide architecture decisions on shared backbones, sensor fusion, and temporal modeling.
• Ensure improvements do not cause regressions in other tasks or downstream behavior.
• Define metrics, benchmarks, and failure-analysis practices for perception tasks.
• Review designs, results and verification evidence to support decisions.
• Collaborate with teams across perception, prediction, planning, data, and safety.
• Communicate progress, risks and staffing needs to senior leadership.
