Job summary

University of Washington is seeking a Labor Relations Negotiator to join the Labor Relations Office. The role involves coordinating collective bargaining, serving as chief negotiator, and representing UW in negotiations and at regulatory proceedings.

The position requires a strong understanding of employment law, project management, and excellent communication skills to support UW’s three campuses and medical centers. Hybrid work with in-office days is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Public Administration or related.
• Three years of professional level labor relations experience in the public or private sector.
• Experience in drafting and developing collective bargaining proposals.

Responsibilities

• Serve as intermediary between Labor Relations, staff and HR professionals for issues involving contract administration, grievances, and union notifications for UW Seattle, Bothell and Tacoma bargaining units.
• Participate in contract negotiations including strategy development, proposal drafting and analysis, team management, consensus building, and finalizing agreements with unions.
• Advise university management and HR on labor developments and regulations; mentor staff in dispute management and conflict resolution.
• Represent the University before regulatory agencies, mediations, and arbitrations, protecting the University's rights under collective bargaining agreements.
• Coordinate with other units for Labor Relations-related activities and assist in implementing proactive strategies to manage culture and organizational change.
• Oversee campus and hospital bargaining unit information requests, develop and present labor relations training, and coordinate compensation discussions as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
