Job summary

Stepan Company is seeking a Senior Instrumentation Engineer for our Millsdale, IL site to ensure reliability and safety of instrumentation, analyzers, valves, PLC/DCS, and networks. You will lead technical reviews, support maintenance and operations, and drive reliability improvements while aligning with company standards and process safety requirements.

The role balances hands-on troubleshooting with long‑term reliability improvement, standardization, and risk reduction, serving as the site SME

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years industrial instrumentation experience.
• Experience in chemical, petrochemical, refinery or process industries preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with control valves, process instrumentation, industrial networks and communication systems, PLC/DCS environments, capital projects, and reliability engineering.

Responsibilities

• Ensure instrumentation reliability and safety across site assets.
• Provide technical leadership for plant instrumentation, analyzers, and control systems.
• Support maintenance, operations, and capital projects; promote process safety compliance.
• Collaborate with Maintenance, Operations, Process Engineering, Projects, and E&I personnel to improve reliability and reduce risk.
• Balance hands-on troubleshooting with long‑term reliability improvement and standardization.
