Job summary

Stepan Company in Elwood, IL is seeking a Process Engineering Leader to direct the Process Engineering function at the Millsdale site. You will act as the technical authority for process technology, safety, and capital project development, driving talent, capabilities, and capital investments aligned with site strategy.

The role demands 15+ years in chemical/process manufacturing, with deep expertise in process engineering, process safety, and project execution.

Qualifications

• Requires 15+ years in chemical/process manufacturing.
• Strong expertise in process engineering, manufacturing support, and process safety.
• Experience with FEL, Stage Gate, capital project development, and project execution.
• Proven track record managing external engineering firms and consultants.

Responsibilities

• Define the Process Engineering function's technical direction and resource plans.
• Lead, coach, and develop Process Engineers and ensure competency development.
• Serve as site SME for process technology, troubleshooting, optimization, and reliability.
• Partner with Operations, Asset Management, EHS&S, and Manufacturing to prioritize CAPEX opportunities.
• Lead front-end development of capital projects, including scope, options, and business case.
• Balance safety, product quality, operability, maintainability, and lifecycle value in project decisions.
• Review and approve MOC, CAPAs, PHA, and PSSR documents for governance of PSM requirements.
• Ensure compliance with Responsible Care, regulatory requirements, Stepan standards, and environmental stewardship.
