Job summary

CDM Smith seeks a Hydraulic Structures Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team focused on flood protection and water projects. You will analyze and design hydraulic structures, lead engineers, and prepare proposals for diverse clients.

The role requires collaboration across Environment, Industry, Transportation and Water sectors, with partial remote schedules. Extensive travel may be required; PE license and 10 years’ experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 10 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required. Frequency of travel depends on workload and project demands.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience accepted.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and design hydraulic structures for flood control, hydroelectric, and other water resource projects (dams, spillways, gates, canals).
• Lead project teams of structural engineers and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Prepare project proposals with scopes, budgets, and schedules.
• Forecast workload and schedules.
• Prepare contract documents including drawings, specs, design docs, cost estimates and bid docs.
• Perform engineering services during construction (shop drawings review).
• Conduct inspections and structural assessments and prepare reports.
• Present technical presentations to project teams, clients, and review boards.
• Conduct risk analyses for hydraulic structures and document results.
• Manage tasks on large projects or multiple medium projects.
• Review work for quality against codes and standards; monitor budgets and schedules.
• Participate in business development, marketing, and recruiting; mentor junior staff.
