Job summary

Elon University is seeking a Lead HVACR Mechanic I to supervise field technicians and perform routine and nonroutine maintenance on campus heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration systems. The role requires expertise in HVACR principles and boiler/chiller operations, with oversight of contractor activities on site.

The position emphasizes mentoring, strong communication, and adherence to codes and university standards.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED with minimum 3 years of experience.
Associate degree, or vocational or technical school degree in HVACR.
State of North Carolina H-3 Licenses or Equivalent.
Advanced understanding of HVACR principles.

Responsibilities

Lead HVACR Mechanic I provides nonroutine maintenance of university HVACR equipment and related components.
Lead HVACR Mechanic I handles routine care and maintenance, including monitoring, servicing, diagnostics, and report generation.
Complete assigned work orders and report results.
Provide daily functional field supervision to the HVACR shop mechanics and route guidance when the supervisor is absent.
Oversee onsite contractors, grant access to facilities, monitor service interruptions, and direct work.
Adjust set points and schedules for Boiler and Chiller plants using the BAS.
