Job summary

Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) in Waco is seeking a Senior HVAC Mechanic II to maintain and repair complex heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems at the state facility. You will lead HVAC projects, monitor environmental controls, and ensure Life Safety Code compliance while providing training to staff.

The role requires journey-level HVAC expertise, relevant certifications, and the ability to manage tasks in a busy hospital/center environment.

Qualifications

• At least 18 months' work experience as HVAC mechanic or technician.
• Experience in commercial HVAC installations and repairs preferred.
• EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required; R410A certification preferred or within 6 months of hire.
• Must possess valid Texas driver's license and clean driving record.
• Ability to read, understand, and apply Life Safety Code standards, regulations and policies.

Responsibilities

• Perform installation, adjustments, alterations, inspections, maintenance, repairs, and restorations of HVAC systems incl. boilers/steam and refrigeration units.
• Design and implement preventative maintenance schedules; ensure Life Safety Code compliance.
• Monitor EMS and environmental controls; troubleshoot and adjust temperatures, humidity, and controls.
• Train and mentor other maintenance staff to safely use HVAC equipment.
• Maintain accurate work records, reports, and inventories.
