Job summary

Dewberry Engineers Incorporated in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Lead Substation Physical Engineer to lead the growth of its medium and high voltage substation design practice. You will guide a high-performing team delivering critical substations for utilities, government entities, and private institutions.

As a senior leader, you will oversee design, coordination of multi-discipline teams, and ensure safety, operability, and constructability while mentoring staff and establishing design standards

Qualifications

BS in electrical engineering.
20+ years of experience in demanding HV substation design projects.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Experience designing medium/high voltage substations and producing design deliverables.
Knowledge of NEC, NFPA Life Safety Codes, and related codes.
Strong leadership and client coordination abilities.

Responsibilities

Meet with clients to demonstrate technical capabilities and scope.
Coordinate with Energy PMO leadership and client managers.
Develop technical approach, engineer estimates, and organize the technical team.
Oversee multi-discipline collaboration and quality oversight.
Mentor staff and establish design standards for future projects.
Ensure schedules, budgets, and safety/constructability requirements are met.
