Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience.
• Must be certified by the SC Department of Corrections Training Academy and complete Basic Supervisory Course within six months.
• Training and supervisory qualifications required for position.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate security and inmates in housing units and ensure custody and control.
• Perform routine inspections of living areas for security, safety, and sanitation.
• Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct by inmates or security personnel.
• Assist in conducting formal and informal counts.
• Supervise performance, conduct, and appearance of security staff; prepare evaluations.
• Counsel and discipline staff; train to required performance standards.
• Prepare reports as needed.
• Perform duties of Shift Lieutenant when necessary.
