Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a crew foreman to supervise highway and bridge maintenance crews and plan daily work. You will coordinate equipment, materials, and personnel, ensure safety, and document activities in the maintenance system.

You will lead safety briefings, inspect roadways, manage traffic control deployments, and respond to weather-related incidents. This role requires CDL readiness and a strong commitment to roadside safety.

Qualifications

• 3.5 years of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
• CDL Class A within six months of placement.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Willingness to work outside normal schedule, including inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and instruct crew in safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
• Plan and schedule routine and preventive maintenance activities.
• Investigate citizen work requests and prioritize tasks.
• Schedule all work and determine required personnel, equipment, and materials.
• Record daily work summaries in the Highway Maintenance Management system.
• Instruct crew in safety practices and conduct pre-work hazard assessments.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices per guidelines.
• Perform roadway inspections and document deficiencies.
• Oversee vehicle and equipment pre-trip checks and inspections.
• Coordinate emergency or inclement weather operations as needed.
