Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Resident Maintenance Foreman to supervise foremen and crews engaged in road and bridge maintenance across Dorchester County. You will organize work schedules, safety trainings, and major maintenance tasks including drainage, pavement markings, and vegetation management.

The role involves assisting with field-issue investigations, data reporting, and managing material orders to keep operations running smoothly, even during inclement weather.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Supervises foremen and crews in maintenance of roads and bridges within Dorchester County.
• Organizes maintenance crew schedules and safety training; trains in major activities such as driveways, signage, drainage, litter removal, vegetation management, and patching/paving.
• Assists the Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer with investigation and assessment of field complaints and data reporting for crew foremen.
• Conducts weekly work zone and jobsite hazard analysis inspections; monitors CDL pre-trip inspections.
• Prepares orders for stockpile or direct purchase materials and ensures material availability for scheduled and unscheduled work.
• Oversees facility cleanliness, inspections, and emergency/inclement weather operations; supports detours per work zone manuals.
• Rates employees annually using the Employment Performance Management System; coaches and counsels staff.
