Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Norfolk, VA seeks a Construction Project Manager – Heavy Civil to support EPC Project Managers in overseeing day-to-day operations from pre-construction through warranty. You will manage safety, quality, schedule, cost, contracts, and client relations on design/build projects with emphasis on heavy civil, waterfront, bridge, and port work.

You will coordinate planning, risk reviews, and project staffing while interfacing with various internal teams and external stakeholders

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field; experience substitutions allowed.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to company’s safety programs, trainings, and policies, and promote Safety & Health performance of project team members and subcontractors.
• Oversee day-to-day construction activities and the successful execution of one or more projects.
• Provide direction in project planning, scheduling, estimating, cost development, and establishing project objectives.
• Develop client relationships and interface with clients for proposals and project items.
• Participate in risk reviews and consult with Legal Department as required.
• Negotiate prime contracts, CM contracts, subcontracts, and change orders.
• Implement project execution plans, including safety, quality, procurement, staffing, and organization charts.
• Develop staffing plans and train project teams, coordinating multiple practices/disciplines.
• Oversee site layout, mobilization/demobilization and permit acquisition.
• Direct and oversee RFPs and bid processes, including scope of work for contracts.
• Review and communicate reports on budgeting, cash flow, and project status.
