Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Staff Civil/Structural Engineer to lead the civil/structural design on marine projects, from concept to design completion. You will balance design integrity with project constraints, prepare drawings and specs, and guide project teams.

The role requires 3–5 years of civil/structural experience, an ABET-accredited degree, and FE (PE preferred). You will mentor junior engineers, conduct field inspections, and participate in client presentations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, or related field from ABET-accredited program is required or FE path alternative.
• Minimum 3–5 years of civil/structural experience; PE preferred or ability to obtain within a year.
• Proficient in analysis and design of marine structures with strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil/structural design of projects from concept through design completion.
• Design and analyze civil/structural components for diverse projects.
• Prepare drawings, specs, and engineering documents for reviews.
• Lead client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Oversee field inspections, measurements, and calculations.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers.
