Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Norfolk, VA is seeking an Assistant Construction Manager to support the Construction Project Manager, EPC/PM roles on water and wastewater projects. You will assist with safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, procurement, subcontractors, and field operations across diverse projects.

The role involves coordinating plans, permits, risk reviews, and client interface, with responsibilities spanning RFPs, change orders, cost reporting, and project closeout.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field with 3 years of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).
• Experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication; well organized.
• Analytical, detail oriented with ability to multi-task in fast-paced environments.
• Experience on construction project sites or program management across multiple industries preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in day-to-day management of safety, quality, schedule, cost, contracts, subcontractors, and procurement.
• Support development of project execution, QA, safety, and subcontracting plans.
• Contribute to bid preparation, RFPs, and contract documents for subcontractor and client selection.
• Support cost reporting, scheduling, WBS, and progress tracking.
• Prepare project status reports, risk, schedule, and cash flow updates for stakeholders.
• Assist with invoicing processes and project documentation control.
• Coordinate turnover, filing, warranty, and closeout activities.
• Ensure compliance with policies and participate in safety, quality, progress, and financial audits.
