Job summary

Bain & Company seeks a Lead AI Engineer in New York to design, build, and ship generative AI systems for enterprise clients. You will work across the full development lifecycle with senior engineers, product managers, and data scientists in a hands-on contributor role.

This role emphasizes scalable AI solutions, responsible AI practices, and collaboration with cross-functional teams, with in-person work three days a week and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years in software/ML/AI roles with hands-on building responsibility.
• Experience shipping generative AI features or systems end-to-end.
• Strong communication to non-technical stakeholders; team collaboration.
• Mentoring peers is a plus; capable of supporting across teams.
• Solid prompt engineering and context engineering skills; design of prompts.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy end-to-end generative AI systems and multi-agent workflows.
• Develop multi-component AI pipelines; include RAG, tuning, embeddings, and hybrid retrieval.
• Implement reasoning, tool use, function calling, and orchestration across AI workflows.
• Contribute to agentic systems with memory architecture and tool integration.
• Participate in full stack: model exploration, evaluation, and production deployment.
• Build APIs, microservices, CI/CD, and cloud-native deployments with observability.
• Support GenAIOps for automated testing, latency monitoring, and improvement.
• Balance performance, safety, and cost; align with Responsible AI standards.
