Job summary

Bain & Company is seeking an AI Engineer within AIS in Boston to design, build, and deploy generative AI systems that scale across client engagements. You will work alongside consultants, engineers, and data scientists to move solutions from prototype to production.

You will contribute across the full lifecycle, from experimentation to production deployment, while mentoring junior teammates and collaborating with partners to apply AI in enterprise settings.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years in software engineering, ML engineering, or applied AI roles with hands-on building responsibilities.
• Demonstrated experience shipping generative AI features or systems end-to-end, from prototyping through production.
• Clear communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical collaborators and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across engineering, product, and data science teams; mentoring peers is a plus.
• Strong prompt engineering and context engineering skills; familiarity with conversation design principles.
• Experience with RAG architectures, agentic patterns, and HITL workflows.
• Familiarity with evaluation design, experimentation frameworks, and data-labeling strategies for LLM apps.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of end-to-end generative AI systems, including multi-agent workflows and production-grade AI applications.
• Build and iterate on multi-component AI pipelines, including RAG, fine-tuning, and embedding optimization.
• Implement reasoning, tool use, and orchestration across AI workflows; ensure scalable, reliable solutions.
• Develop agentic systems with clean memory management and robust tool integration.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, data science, and ethics teams to ensure responsible AI practices.
• Contribute to production deployment, API and CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling.
