Job summary

Blue Origin in Washington state seeks a seasoned Principal FPGA Designer to lead the design, verification, and integration of high‑speed FPGA‑based systems for the Terawave program. You will own critical deliverables from concept through flight, mentor junior engineers, and drive technical excellence across multi‑discipline teams.

This role requires 12+ years in FPGA design, Verilog/SystemVerilog, and experience with high‑speed interfaces and DFT/DFM.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 12+ years of hands‑on FPGA design and verification experience, with leadership at principal or senior level.
  • Proficiency in VHDL, Verilog and SystemVerilog for RTL design and simulation.
  • Experience with industry‑standard FPGA families (AMD Versal, IGLOO and equivalents).
  • Experience with toolchains for synthesis, P&R, and timing analysis.
  • Strong understanding of high‑speed digital design, including signal integrity, clock domain crossings, and SERDES interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Lead FPGA designs through full development lifecycle: requirements, architecture, RTL design, simulation, synthesis, place‑and‑route, timing closure, hardware bring‑up.
  • Refine FPGA design methodologies, coding standards, and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain verification environments with testbenches and constrained‑random stimulus.
  • Collaborate with program stakeholders to define interfaces and ensure end‑to‑end performance.
  • Support hardware integration, bring‑up, and debugging in lab environments.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide technical feedback.
  • Mentor junior/mid‑level FPGA engineers and foster engineering excellence.
  • Evaluate FPGA devices, IP cores, and vendor solutions to meet program needs.
  • Contribute to planning with estimates, risk identification, and mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain design documentation and test plans per CM standards.
