Job summary

City of Greenacres is seeking a qualified Mechanic Supervisor to oversee mechanics in the maintenance and repair of light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles. The role emphasizes planning, supervision, safety, and efficiency in automotive and fleet operations.

Candidates should have a strong background in diesel/gasoline systems, welding and preventive maintenance, with supervisory experience and Florida CDL readiness. This on-site position supports emergency operations as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• ASE certifications strongly preferred and beneficial.
• Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification preferred within 6 months.
• Valid Florida CDL Class B license with air-brake endorsement or ability to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

• Oversees planning, supervision and completion of shop and field work.
• Researches cost-effective parts and supplies and ensures compliance with PO terms.
• Prepares specifications and requisitions, evaluates suppliers and prices.
• Identifies training needs and mentors staff.
• Acts as on-site backup for Fleet Supervisor and ensures safety compliance.
• Maintains preventive maintenance schedules and tool/equipment readiness.
• Researches workflow optimization and new technologies for efficiency.
• Coordinates environmental compliance audits and permits.
• Performs maintenance and repairs on vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Inspects, diagnoses and repairs vehicle systems (electrical, hydraulic, cooling, etc.).
• Conducts diagnostic testing and collaborates with supervisor for repairs.
• Performs welding, fabrication and metal repairs.
• Maintains clean and safe work area and records logs.
• Supports emergency operations planning and response when needed.
