Job summary

Herc Rentals in the United States is seeking a Mechanic A to lead fleet maintenance, ensuring equipment stays on the rental 'ready line' through proactive servicing and safety-first practices.

You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, complete repairs independently, and mentor junior mechanics while maintaining thorough service reports and timely parts orders.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of experience repairing heavy equipment.
• Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ownership of hand and air/electric tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance schedule for all Herc-owned fleet.
• Operate and test equipment to ensure it passes quality and efficiency standards.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs independently.
• Diagnose engines, electrical, hydraulic, propane, and fuel systems.
• Perform major repairs using diagnostic tools and measuring instruments.
• Enter and review work orders and order parts via the fleet management system.
• Assist shop lead with customer damage estimates and repairs.
• Provide mentorship to B and C level mechanics.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Produce detailed service reports and repair logs.
