Job summary
The Department of General Services, Fleet Management Services in Montgomery County seeks an Equipment Maintenance Crew Chief to supervise a team of journey-level Mechanic Technicians and perform skilled repairs on a wide range of heavy equipment and transit vehicles. The role requires leadership, scheduling, and strong technical expertise.
This essential position supports a 24/7 operation with shifts including nights and weekends.
Qualifications
- Six years of journey level experience in vehicle repair for heavy-duty and transit equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent; equivalency acceptable for education/experience.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain CDL with endorsements as required.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and assign work repairing vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Inspect work in progress and after completion for quality and safety compliance.
- Provide technical guidance on complex jobs to team members.
- Monitor preventive maintenance schedules and enforce compliance.
- Evaluate employee performance and attendance; coach and mentor staff.
- Collaborate with county departments to resolve repair issues and maximize uptime.
- Enter and review data in the computerized information system.
- Lead and supervise journey-level mechanics and lesser skilled staff.
