Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Survey Party Chief in Woodbridge, VA to lead field survey crews on residential and commercial projects. You will coordinate daily field activities, supervise data collection, and ensure safety and quality of deliverables while working closely with senior leadership and office staff.

The role requires 3–5+ years in land surveying, proficiency with Total Stations, Leica, Trimble, TopCon, and GPS, plus strong calculations and map research skills.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of land surveying experience including topographic, boundary, ALTA, as-built, and stakeout surveys.
• Experience leading or supporting field survey crews and data collection.
• Hands-on with survey equipment such as Total Stations, Leica, Trimble, TopCon, and GPS.
• Ability to perform trigonometric calculations (traverses, coordinates, control points, areas).
• Ability to interpret record maps, deeds, easements, and right-of-way documents.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather and conditions and to drive company vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with survey leadership and office staff to ensure client deadlines are met.
• Oversee day-to-day survey schedule and field progress to keep projects on track.
• Lead field crews with daily instructions based on project plans and guidance.
• Provide clear guidance on schedules, priorities, and daily status updates.
• Gather and review field data to support timely deliverables.
• Inspect job sites for safety hazards and enforce PPE and safety protocols.
• Perform and supervise technical field work with accurate measurements and records.
• Make calculations for traverses, coordinates, and quantities.
• Research existing records to support survey work and verify site conditions.
• Assist in completing surveys including ALTA, topographic, boundary, and stakeout.
• Ensure data uploads/downloads to appropriate systems are accurate.
