Job summary

Actalent in Woodbridge, VA is seeking a Survey Party Chief to lead field survey crews on a wide range of land surveying projects. You will coordinate with senior survey leadership and office staff to deliver accurate measurements, maps, and records while meeting client deadlines.

This role emphasizes field operations management, safety compliance, and hands-on surveying with Leica, Total Stations, Trimble, TopCon, and GPS instruments.

Qualifications

• 35+ years of land surveying experience across topographic, boundary, ALTA, as-builts and stakeouts.
• Experience with Leica, Total Stations, Trimble, TopCon and GPS instruments.
• Strong trig calculations including traverses and coordinates.
• Ability to research and interpret record maps, deeds, easements and ROW documents.
• Outdoor work in varying weather and terrain; valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, communicate, and collaborate with survey leadership and office staff to meet client deadlines.
• Manage day-to-day survey schedule and monitor progress to keep projects on track.
• Lead field crews with daily guidance based on project plans and leadership direction.
• Provide clear task priorities and daily status updates to the team.
• Review information from field crews to support timely deliverables.
• Inspect job sites for safety hazards and enforce PPE and safety protocols.
• Perform and oversee technical field efforts, ensuring accurate measurements and records.
• Make traverses and calculations of coordinates, control points, quantities, and areas.
• Research record maps, deeds, easements, and right-of-way documents.
• Assist in ALTA, boundary, topographic, as-built, and stakeout surveys.
• Ensure accurate data uploads/downloads to appropriate systems.
• Maintain proficiency and readiness of survey equipment.
• Drive company vehicle to survey sites and represent the team professionally.
