Summary
The Lead Service Technician (LST) is responsible for the maintenance and service of USA Compression equipment, reporting to the Area Service Manager. The role involves developing Field Service Technicians, being a subject matter expert, performing scheduled maintenance, building customer relationships, and troubleshooting equipment issues. The LST participates in start-ups, major maintenance, failures, and high-end troubleshooting. We prioritize safety, professionalism, and our Pillars culture.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Participate in start-ups, major maintenance, failures, overhauls, and troubleshooting, utilizing advanced diagnostic skills.
- Lead by example, serve as a subject matter expert, and mentor Field Service Technicians.
- Ensure compliance with contractual run time requirements for natural gas compression units.
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries and communicate with the ASM.
- Collaborate with the ASM for smooth operations.
- Operate company vehicles safely according to guidelines.
- Coordinate with sales to identify new opportunities.
- Manage parts inventory using WMS and coordinate with the parts department.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety at work sites.
- Promote USAC culture and assist in recruiting new FSTs.
- Assist in supervisory duties as needed.
- Follow safety, environmental policies, and company policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills/Capabilities And Education
- Technical/trade certification, college degree, or relevant experience.
- Minimum of 7 years in gas compression, preferred brands include CAT, Ariel, Cummins.
- Certifications in CAT Gas Engine II, Troubleshooting, Electronics, and others are a plus.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable MVR.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- High mechanical ability, including electrical and gas compression systems.
- Experience reading technical manuals and understanding safety procedures.
- Knowledge of natural gas compression equipment configuration.
- Strong computer skills.
- Flexible to work extended hours and on-call weekends.
- Legal right to work in the U.S.
Working Conditions
- Travel up to 75% to customer locations.
- Periodic lifting over 50 lbs.
- Work on uneven terrain, climb ladders, and perform physical tasks.
- Exposure to weather, noise, chemicals, and heavy equipment.
- Work environment varies between indoor and outdoor sites, emphasizing safety.
