Job Description Summary

The Lead Field Service Engineer - Drives, under general guidance and minimal supervision, performs a wide range of engineering tasks to ensure proper installation, service, and commissioning of products and services. Provides technical support for installation and commissioning of projects, as well as maintenance, breakdown emergency support, and remote troubleshooting.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Perform a wide range of engineering tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of GE drive systems at site locations.
  2. Perform troubleshooting activities at site locations to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implement corrective actions.
  3. Develop documentation to execute work, such as commissioning procedures, maintenance procedures, daily logs, etc.
  4. Work independently and lead small teams.
  5. Execute on-site project management and technical leadership duties to resolve customer issues and ensure customer satisfaction.
  6. Develop presentations and provide training and instruction to customers on drive operations.
  7. Coordinate additional opportunities to serve the customer with the customer service team, parts, other FSEs, repair services, sales, and product engineering teams.
  8. Advise the customer on recommended upgrades, parts, and service opportunities to improve productivity and promote GE parts and services.
  9. Coordinate maintenance activities and planning for inspections.
  10. Support engineering teams working on customer modernization projects.
  11. Support the bidding process for customer modernization projects.
  12. Provide on-call support in response to customer service calls.
  13. Complete timely service reports and administrative requirements.
  14. Perform work onboard vessels within GE/Customer safety guidelines, either in shipyards or offshore.
  15. Extended hours/overtime may be required during peak periods and emergencies.
  16. Travel domestically or overseas to customer sites for extended periods.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university (or Associate degree with a minimum of 5 years of related industry experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of field service and/or commissioning experience.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 85% on short notice.
  • Physical fitness to board vessels offshore.
  • Ability to pass HUET and offshore survival courses, including activities in a swimming pool.

Desired Characteristics:

  • At least 3 years of experience with GE Drive systems, including MV7000, SD7000, MV3000.
  • Ability to handle complex assignments requiring engineering skill, creativity, and judgment.
  • Detailed knowledge and expertise in installation and commissioning tasks.
