Job summary

Farnsworth Group is seeking a Construction Resident Engineer to join our team in Illinois. You will lead and supervise a field staff on mid-to-large heavy highway construction projects, managing field engineering, contract administration, and coordination.

A PE license and civil engineering degree are preferred, with 6+ years of relevant experience. Role involves field work on road and bridge projects, exposure to heavy traffic and adverse weather, and emphasis on safety and compliance with

Qualifications

• Minimum civil engineering degree required.
• PE license preferred or required.
• Experience supervising field inspection teams on transportation projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the construction inspection team.
• Prepare and analyze construction documents and schedules.
• Manage contracts and CMMS-based processes.
• Oversee daily inspector reports and contractor progress payments.
• Review submittals, traffic plans, and schedule adherence.
• Meet with contractors to resolve issues and plan work.
• Ensure safety of personnel and traveling public.
• Administer and oversee field staff and office personnel.
• Monitor schedule, budget, technical specs, and compliance.
• Conduct progress meetings and prepare project status reports.
• Communicate safety policies and handle contract changes.
