Job summary

Broward County Public Schools is seeking a Facilities Custodian to support the cleaning program, maintain safety and appearance of facilities, and operate mechanical systems under supervision.

The role requires completing the training program and having a high school diploma or GED, with 3 years of relevant facility experience. Applicants should be able to lift up to 55 pounds and work on ladders; the position is paid hourly with a day calendar and standard benefits.

Qualifications

• Standard high school diploma or GED.
• Three (3) years of industrial, commercial, or educational facility experience.
• Ability to follow standard custodial practices.
• Ability to act as Head Custodian in absence.
• Ability to plan and direct the work of others; knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment.
• Understand and practice energy conservation.
• Must physically be able to climb and work from ladders.
• Must be able to operate heavy duty floor scrubbing and rug shampooing equipment.
• Must complete the Professional and Master Facilities Service job-related training prior to applying.
• Computer skills as required for the position.

Responsibilities

• Review work performed by Facilities Serviceperson and others on shift.
• Instruct subordinates in proper use of supplies, equipment, chemicals, ladders and safety procedures.
• Perform the duties of Facilities Serviceperson.
• Activate, monitor, adjust and turn off boilers, AC equipment, power sources.
• Climb stairs and ladders to change bulbs and perform minor repairs as directed.
• Verify security of the school before departure; inspect perimeter; activate security devices.
• Inform supervisor of needed supplies; call maintenance as directed.
• Perform duties of Head Facilities Serviceperson during vacation or non-extended periods.
• Practice safety and ensure a safe working area.
• Participate in training to increase skill; complete projects Competently.
• Record time and materials properly.
• Perform duties requiring physical effort (up to 55 pounds).
• Review current developments and safety procedures.
• Adhere to laws and School Board policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
• Follow federal and state laws and School Board policies.
