Job summary

ReportAll USA is seeking a Lead Engineer to drive the technical direction and lead from the codebase. You’ll mentor engineers, collaborate with product, and own architecture while shipping features with high quality.

You will design backend systems in PHP/Laravel, leverage Python for tooling, and guide containerization efforts using Docker and Kubernetes. This role thrives in a fast-paced startup environment with remote-friendly options.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience; senior/lead capacity.
• Hands-on PHP and Laravel in production environments.
• Proficiency in Python for scripting, tooling, or service development.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm for deployment management.
• Collaborates closely with product teams; comfortable in requirements discussions.
• Strong understanding of relational databases, API design, and system architecture.

Overview:

We’re hiring a Lead Engineer who leads from the codebase. You’ll guide our team’s technical direction while writing and reviewing code regularly, and you’ll work hand-in-hand with product to turn roadmap priorities into well-built, shippable features. Expect to set the bar on technical standards, clear blockers for the team, and keep your hands on the keyboard.

Our web interface provides one-to-one, integrated access to a multitude of government record sites and other internet based mapping platforms. Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and applications using PHP/Laravel and Python.
• Drive technical architecture and roadmap for your area, balancing speed with long-term maintainability.
• Contribute to the containerization and deployment efforts using Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• Partner directly with product managers to scope work, clarify requirements, and translate business goals into technical plans.
• Review code, set engineering standards, and mentor other engineers on the team.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, including performance and reliability concerns.
• Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and technical discovery alongside product and design.
• Identify technical debt and drive initiatives to address it without derailing feature delivery.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including time in a senior or lead capacity.
• Strong hands-on experience with PHP and Laravel in production environments.
• Working proficiency in Python for scripting, tooling, or service development.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration; familiarity with Helm for deployment management.
• Proven history of collaborating closely with product teams and comfortable in requirements discussions, not just implementation.
• Solid understanding of relational databases, API design, and system architecture.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline design and/or infrastructure-as-code.
• Experience working in a fast-paced startup or small-team environment.
