Job summary

Cowboy Space Corp. is seeking a Lead Configurator / Integrator to own the physical architecture of engines and vehicle subsystems.

You will translate schematics into buildable three‑dimensional reality, routing fluid conductors, designing mounting hardware, and ensuring layouts meet loads, thermal, assembly, and serviceability needs. The role blends sketches, CAD, physics, and AI tools to drive design decisions, collaborating with propulsion, avionics, and mechanisms teams, while mentoring

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in configuration design, systems integration, packaging, or layout engineering for complex mechanical/fluid assemblies.
  • High-level proficiency in 3D CAD (NX preferred) with ability to manage large, multi-discipline assemblies.
  • Strong understanding of structural loads, secondary structure design, and bracket/clamp architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware integration and working on the shop floor.

Responsibilities

  • Own the configuration and packaging of engine assemblies and vehicle subsystems including mass, volume, cost, and lead time tradeoffs.
  • Design and route fluid conductors (tubing, manifolds) across engines and vehicle systems with minimal pressure drop and accessible maintenance.
  • Design mounting hardware, brackets, and secondary structure sized for flight loads and durability.
  • Drive layout decisions with assembly sequence, tool access, refurbishment workflows, and serviceability.
  • Conduct rapid design exploration using sketches, parametric CAD, generative design, and AI-assisted layouts.
  • Coordinate with propulsion, avionics, and mechanisms teams to resolve spatial conflicts and interfaces.
  • Own master configuration models, envelope definitions, keep-out zones, and integration drawings.
  • Evaluate packaging alternatives with trade criteria: mass, pressure drop, margins, assembly time, and cost.
  • Support integration and build activities; resolve fit-check issues and iterate layouts for manufacturability.
  • Mentor designers and junior engineers on configuration design and best-practices for maintainability.
