Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. in Highland Heights, OH (hybrid) is seeking a Lead Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and lead embedded firmware for industrial and connected products.

You will mentor engineers, drive architecture, integrate RTOS, device drivers, and Linux-based systems, and collaborate with validation, electrical, and product teams to ensure robust performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
• Significant experience in embedded firmware/software development using C and C++.
• Experience developing software for embedded devices and Embedded Linux platforms.
• Experience developing applications using RTOS.
• Strong understanding of ARM-based architectures, including Cortex‑M3, Cortex‑M4, and i.MX platforms.
• Working knowledge of communication interfaces and protocols CAN, I2C, UART, SPI, Ethernet, TCP, UDP.
• Experience with embedded development toolchains such as GCC, Keil, CCS, and Microsoft Visual Studio.
• Experience using lab and debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and JTAG debuggers.
• Ability to read schematics and datasheets.
• Troubleshooting hardware/software integration.
• Linux/Unix Bash familiarity.
• Git/version control experience.
• Experience supporting embedded software for industrial or motion-control systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware in C/C++ for embedded devices and industrial systems.
• Develop embedded applications using RTOS.
• Support software for PMSM/BLDC motor control and motion systems.
• Design and implement device drivers for Serial, CAN, SPI, Ethernet, and peripherals.
• Develop software for Embedded Linux where applicable.
• Build and support Embedded Linux using Buildroot/Yocto.
• Debug hardware and software with lab equipment and JTAG debuggers.
• Lead architecture, code quality, and development best practices.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and technical guidance.
• Collaborate with validation, electrical, systems, and product teams.
