Job summary

GSA seeks a Vertical Transportation Specialist Elevator Inspector to lead and guide zonal property managers in overseeing VT programs for federal tenants in over 8500 spaces nationwide. The role emphasizes safety, code compliance, and contract oversight, with a focus on ASME A17.1 standards and periodic testing requirements.

Qualifications

• Specialized experience at GS-12 level or higher in evaluating VT equipment to verify safety, maintenance, and code compliance.
• QEI-1 certification by ASME-accredited organization is required.
• U.S. citizenship or national status is required for federal employment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure VT inspection program complies with applicable codes and standards and document inspections.
• Oversee acceptance inspections and tests per ANSI/ASME A17.1; witness and approve tests.
• Provide technical oversight for maintenance contracts and site visits; analyze elevator data and call reports.
• Act as liaison to contractors; review and approve work and inspection reports for the VT inventory.
• Support national and zonal efforts to track VT equipment in an electronic asset system.
