Job summary

City Light & Power, Inc. (CLPE) seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer-Power Systems for a senior role guiding complex substation and power distribution projects. The role emphasizes leadership across design, analysis, and field coordination, with a focus on microgrid concepts and reliability.

The candidate will mentor junior engineers, manage system studies, and ensure adherence to utility standards while coordinating with clients and project teams across sites.

Qualifications

• BSEE with emphasis in power systems required.
• 12+ years in electric utility industry, with at least 5 years in lead/supervisor/project manager role.
• PE license required.
• SME in power system analysis, distribution modeling, and protective device coordination.
• Expert knowledge of medium voltage substations and distribution systems.
• Experience using MS Project to prepare time/cost/labor estimates.
• High proficiency with ETAP, SKM, EasyPower or similar.
• Ability to mentor staff and lead teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and complex power distribution systems.
• Develop conceptual and detailed microgrid packages with renewable and fossil generation assets.
• Prepare, review, and approve design reports and procedures.
• Develop electrical models in ETAP and validate study findings.
• Maintain knowledge of protection and relaying schemes for electric distribution system.
• Schedule field walk-downs to determine project requirements and assist with cost estimates.
• Guide junior engineers and oversee tasks on project work.
