Job summary

CLP Engineering (CLPE) seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer‑Power Systems for a senior role on our utility-focused engineering team. You will lead design of subtransmission, substations, and complex power distribution projects and mentor junior engineers.

Candidates must be a US citizen and bring SME experience in power system analysis, ETAP/SKM/EasyPower, and project leadership. This position blends field work with design and client collaboration across a growing, mission‑driven firm.

Qualifications

• BSEE from an accredited university with emphasis in power systems.
• 12+ years in electric utility with 5+ years in a Lead/Supervisor/PM role.
• PE License required.
• SME with power system analysis, distribution modeling, and protective device coordination.
• Expert knowledge with medium voltage substations and distribution systems.
• Experience with MS Project to prepare time/cost/labor estimates.
• Proficiency with ETAP/SKM/EasyPower or similar.
• Ability to mentor staff and oversee project work.
• Strong analytical, organizational and multitasking skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; team player.

Responsibilities

• Possess and maintain broad knowledge of utility power distribution principles and standards.
• Develop design options, calculations, analyses and estimates for substation and distribution projects.
• Lead design of sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and complex power distribution systems.
• Create conceptual and detailed packages for microgrid designs with renewable and fossil assets.
• Prepare, review, and approve design reports and procedures as Lead Engineer.
• Develop electrical models and validate study findings.
• Develop electrical specifications for major equipment.
• Maintain strong client relationships and field presence as required.
• Keep current with utility standards and codes for all installations.
• Provide mentoring to junior engineers on project tasks.
