Job description

Electrical Engineer - Discipline Lead - Position and Responsibilities

As an Electrical Engineer - Discipline Lead (DL), you will be responsible for directing a discipline design team throughout the entire project cycle from initial concept through successful completion. The DL will manage the organization, control, integration, and completion of their discipline's part of a project or the design portion of a design/construction project to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with the scope, budget, schedule, and quality conditions as established by the contract and client requirements. The DL must possess sufficient technical knowledge to recognize technical problems in assigned disciplines and initiate corrective actions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Manage resources for execution.
  2. Collect and prepare data, perform detailed calculations, and write technical reports.
  3. Develop technical specifications & data sheets, evaluate bids, and recommend designs that meet client requirements for operability, reliability, maintainability, and safety.
  4. Serve as a discipline interface to the client and attend significant meetings.
  5. Review calculations and vendor drawings.
  6. Develop and monitor project discipline schedules, budgets, and staffing forecasts.
  7. Review project/discipline deliverables for compliance with standards and specifications.
  8. Identify scope changes affecting schedule or budgets.
Education, Experience, and Skills

The successful candidate will possess:

  1. 15+ years of electrical systems design experience in a consulting organization.
  2. An accredited B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or Technology.
  3. A PE license is preferred but not required.
  4. Knowledge of single line diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, and NEC applications.
  5. Experience managing project teams of 3-4 members.
  6. Experience with Front End Engineering and Design or Front-End Loading studies.
  7. Experience with power distribution, substations, equipment specifications, modeling, and integration into processing plants.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  9. Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements

While performing essential functions, the candidate must be able to:

  • Remain stationary, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and use repetitive motions.
  • Use vision for close and distance focus.
  • Work in various environmental conditions, including site visits that may involve exposure to heat, cold, noise, and environmental hazards.
  • Travel occasionally to other locations or client sites.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and auto insurance.
