Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) is looking for a Primary Electrical Design Engineer to join the growing BESS team and provide expert electrical design across substations, cable routes, LV layouts, switch rooms, and earthing layouts. The role involves a hybrid working pattern with site, office and remote work.

You will lead and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with a seasoned team of engineers and designers on flagship projects within a fully integrated design‑and‑build environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems Electrical preferred).
• Experience in primary electrical design with a consultancy, contractor or utility in the Power industry.
• Experience designing HV AC power systems and producing electrical layout drawings for substations, switchrooms, control rooms and balance of plant projects.
• 11kV distribution networks
• 22kV distribution networks
• 33kV switchrooms and control rooms
• 66kV-400kV AIS substations
• Understanding of HV/EHV substation installation standards and TO/DNO specifications.
• Ability to take initiative and proactively address issues.

Responsibilities

• Determine base electrical site layout for adoptable/private assets per DNO/IDNO/client requirements.
• Co-ordinate system studies and ensure outputs are included in detailed design and specifications.
• Develop specifications for major plant items and approve manufacturer information.
• Design equipment support structures for AIS equipment from 66kV to 400kV and approve manufacturer information.
• Lead electrical design integration of inverters, BESS enclosures, PCS units, transformers and auxiliary systems to the grid connection point.
• Produce site-wide ducting/cabling layout drawings and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Develop earthing layouts from first principles verifiable by the earthing designer.
• Liaise with installation and commissioning teams to ensure installation and testing per design.
• Contribute to standardised systems, processes, designs and specifications.
