Job summary

SCMCAA is seeking a Lead Teacher for our Head Start program to plan, organize and monitor the classroom environment and program activities. You will develop and implement educational programs, ensure children and families receive Head Start services, and supervise classroom staff.

The role requires strong collaboration with families and community partners, maintaining a clean, safe classroom, and adhering to program policies. Travel and flexibility may be involved to support parents and centers.

Qualifications

• AA degree in the area of child development, early childhood education or a related field.
• Must have 8 credit hours in early childhood education courses if degree is not in a related field
• Possess an Infant/Toddler CDA
• Knowledge and experience in early childhood development, teaching methods and practices, as required by performance standards.
• Ability to relate to children and parents in a positive, constructive manner.

Responsibilities

• Direction of classroom activities, health, safety and well-being of the children during Head Start.
• Assist in developing the overall curriculum.
• Develop weekly lesson plans outlining daily classroom activities and individual plans to meet children's needs.
• Administer health related screening and document results.
• Administer developmental screening and document results.
• Assess each child’s ongoing development and individualize for each child.
• Observe and document observations regularly.
• Refer children with suspected problems.
