Job summary

SCMCAA is seeking a Lead Teacher for a Head Start Center to plan, organize and monitor classroom operations, curriculum development and family engagement. You will ensure health, safety and developmentally appropriate activities for children.

You will conduct home visits, collaborate with staff and parents, and maintain a positive classroom environment while following Head Start policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• AA degree in the area of child development, early childhood education or a related field.
• Must have 8 credit hours in early childhood education courses if degree is not in a related field.
• Possess an Infant/Toddler CDA.
• Knowledge of early childhood development, teaching methods and practices.
• Ability to relate to children and parents in a positive, constructive manner.

Responsibilities

• Directs classroom activities, health, safety and well-being of the children.
• Assist in developing the curriculum.
• Develop weekly lesson plans to meet children's needs.
• Administer health-related screenings and document results.
• Administer developmental screenings and document results.
• Observe and document children's development and conditions.
• Refer children with suspected problems.
• Maintain facilities, equipment and supplies.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary classroom environment.
• Perform teaching tasks as directed and outlined in curriculum.
• Conduct home visits to support goals for children and families.
• Stimulate parent involvement and recruit volunteers.
• Prepare and submit agency and Head Start reports.
